this is off-topic but idk why i laughed out loud when i read this line; "But, unfortunately, the term superfood is a cape, worn not by a hero, but a serpent akin to a sleazy car salesman." them car salesman are really catching strays left and right LOL

anyways, back on topic. yeah the black seed oil is really a timeless gem and has aloot of benefits. infact i was reading some stuffs about ancient egyptian practices and i was shocked to see that even back then it was used by the queens and priestesses as part of their skincare, even by the men as well. they valued it so much that a bottle of the oil was buried with them in their tomb.

also growing up my dad always emphasized the benefits of blackseed, so it was constant in our diet Alhamdullilah.

really great post, well written as always!

Lool they really have a bad rep!

Damn no way I didn't know ancient Egyptian's were buried with this stuff too!!

But ya Alhamdulillah there's so much value in our cultures and religion!

Thanks for reading and commenting!

I absolutely enjoyed reading this tidbit of Information Leena!

Keep it coming. The image of a sleazy car salesman cracked me up though.

Though I am a little bit older. My go to for glass skin is rice water as a toner and yogurt with rice flour as a mask. Leaves my skin Glowing wand hydrated every time.

I'm not regular with it, though I have read it can do wonders if used regularly.

The black seed though is a jack of all trades. Consuming 6-7 seeds with a teaspoon honey on an empty stomach in the morning is what my grandmother did.

Thank you for reading, I’m glad you found some humour in my writing!!

I’ve never tried yogurt and rice flour but that sounds super interesting, I’m going to do some research in it and try it out Insha’Allah!

Black seeds with honey sounds so powerful, I have to give that a try. I feel like it would make the taste better too, though I have grown accustomed to the taste of black seeds!

Really enjoyed reading this! I just started a course in Tibb an Nabawi, and I am really excited to learn more about the uses of black seed taught by the prophet and other 'miracle foods' as well.

This is great, Leena! Keep the bitesized science coming!

Theres soo much whacky info out there and baseless promises and marketting. Superfood is like the blue verified badge lol.

I will have to look into black seed oil. Have you looked into reputable bdands? Oils are a hit and miss for my skin. I've yet to find an oil that doesn't cause me irritation or actually shows some net positive, even if little.

Ya marketing is super deceptive!

Right now I just eat black seeds whole. It can be hard to find an oil that works well for your skin, there's definitely trial and error involved. What oils have you tried?

I've found that sunflower oil is very light and seems into the skin really well, it doesn't leave my skin greasy either. Coconut oil is good but, definitely not as hydrating, and it does sit on top of the skin a little. Olive for skin is really not good, it sits on top of the skin and leaves me very greasy. Argan oil is often found in blends and this is the only one I've experiences to cause irritation sometimes. It's a hit or miss, some blends are very hydrating, others not so much. Castor oil is another great one, especially for longer duration hydration. It is thick and leaves a bit of a sticky feeling, though not greasy. It can also be thinned out with other oils to make it less sticky.

I mostly use oils for hydration, I know some of them have antimicrobial properties as well, but I haven't found them to be that effective in that regard. Picking the right oil is all about figuring out your needs and experimenting!

You know what, i should look into a minimum effective dose for supplementing straight black seed. How much do you eat daily?

I will have to try sunflower oil. Cocnut makes me itch, olive too, sheabutter as well. Castor is madddd thick!! Aint feasable unless u blend it i guess.

I will have to try other ones. The trial and error is tedious work lol. But aH we have the ability to do that.

Ya Alhamdulillah so many different kinds of oil are widely accessible now.

I just eat a teaspoon daily!

This post brought to my mind the container of black seed in my parent’s kitchen.

Alhamdulillah my mum’s a staunch lover of the seed.

Keep this educating post coming Leena 🫶🏽

This was so interesting to read! We always have a jar of black seed honey at home - it tastes pretty good, kinda like regular honey but its full of black seed so its like black honey haha. Whenever we fall ill for too long - a flu that won't go away or an injury taking too long to heal - my mom will bring out that jar and make us have a teaspoon in the morning before eating or drinking anything else, and at night before sleeping. I've never had black seed as it is though, and I've only tried rosehip oil as an oil for in skincare. Another 'prophetic food' my mom encourages us to use is ajwa dates :)

Black seed honey is a new thing I’m hearing about, I really want to try it Insha’Allah!!

I’ve heard so much about rosehip oil, how do you like it?!

I only tried it for a few weeks - and I was using it alongside a few other serums for my then rampant acne and acne scars. So unfortunately Im not sure about the efficacy of the oil itself because of that, but my acne scars definitely did go away around that period. I dont use it now though, I've found that I prefer more lightweight products on my (already oily) skin now!
